October 10, 2025 | Ottawa, Ontario

Canada’s new government has announced a series of initiatives designed to make life more affordable for families, seniors, and individuals across the country. These measures, shared by Prime Minister Mark Carney ahead of Budget 2025, focus on reducing everyday costs, improving access to essential programs, and supporting communities as they build stronger futures together.

At Bridge to Oasis (BTO) Foundation, we welcome these steps that directly align with our mission to empower families and individuals through access to resources, education, and community support.

Highlights of the new measures include:

  • Automatic Federal Benefits: Starting in 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency will automatically file taxes for up to 5.5 million low-income Canadians by 2028. This will help ensure that more people—especially newcomers and seniors—receive the benefits they qualify for, such as the GST/HST credit, Canada Child Benefit, and Canada Disability Benefit.

  • Permanent National School Food Program: The program will now provide healthy meals for up to 400,000 children across Canada, helping families save on grocery costs and ensuring children have the nutrition they need to learn and grow.

  • Renewal of the Canada Strong Pass: Families and young people will once again be able to explore Canada’s museums, parks, and historic sites at lower costs, making travel and cultural experiences more accessible to everyone.

These changes build on efforts to reduce costs for Canadians—such as tax cuts for middle-income earners, removing the GST for first-time homebuyers, and eliminating the consumer carbon tax.

At BTO Foundation, we believe that accessible supports and equitable opportunities help build resilient communities. Programs like these make a real difference in the lives of families we serve and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive Canada.
